Fun with the Bossman
Few words can describe my new boss A J. (Off the top of my head I’d use Incredible, bossy and FUN.) The first time I remember hanging with A J on a professional level he changed my life by introducing me to a highly addictive taco truck while simultaneously teaching me our booking program. That’s…

Scaredy Frog
The sun was setting as the full moon rose over the horizon to guide my first night tour on the Manchac. Fifteen of the most unique misfits blindly kayaking, in nothing but moonlight and gumption is the best boat experience one could ever have. Sounds of all the creatures enveloped every corner of our eardrums…

Frog Log
Its not easy being green, especially during frogging season. After spending the weekend seeing big frogs, tiny frogs, screaming frogs and finally bullfrogs I went straight to my favorite source for watching nature (or just crazy and/or informational things in general) YOUTUBE. This is an interesting one posted from Audubon Nature Institute: http://www.wwltv.com/entertainment/television/programming/morning-show/learning-more-about-the-american-bullfrog-/27 While browsing it links you to SO many videos including how and where to hunt Bullfrogs this time of year. There is a HUGE culture in Manchac that goes night hunting for these big beautiful hop masters, and though I’m not the biggest fan of hunting, it is a very old and interesting tradition that I find fascinating. Here is another video I found (warning: a bit intense)

Will Go To Jail For Lorde
An excerpt from a minute in Mike Mahers brain Dear Diary, Spring is here and that means among the annual migration of birds, rain and pastel colored shorts is Jazz Fest, bringing the usual litany of Jimmy Buffett and Jimmy Buffett-esque performers in large text on top of the likely more deserving small text performers…

A Living Fossil
by Emma Reid If you are kayaking with us you may pull up some long stringy water weeds on your paddle that is commonly called coontail, since it oddly resembles a racoon’s tail. Well, believe it or not that aquatic plant is most closely related to the world’s oldest flowering plant to be discovered, at around 130…

Bird Watching: The Black-Bellied Whistling Duck
Where to find the Black-Bellied Whistling Duck We’re excited about whistling ducks around here, no question. To start, their recent return to the southern Louisiana swamps has improved our daily cornucopia of birdsongs immensely. This is yet another example of the key function our wetlands play in the yearly migratory path of several hundred north…

Don’t Buy Her Roses!
You might be asking yourself “What to do on Valentine’s day in New Orleans?” That is an easy question to answer! As long as you are not asking “What to get her on Valentine’s Day?” Your mind is in the right place. A lot of studies have shown that activities create longer-lasting memories than gifting…
